Sometimes school reading is relevant to life. Wow

So I’m reading this book on memory for my trauma class and low and behold I actually come across something that struck a chord with me so here goes:

“The events of the past, and the attachment of the person to that past, especially in cases of trauma, can involve a fixation or a constant return: the compulsion to repeat or to act out, the inability to detach oneself from the lost object.  Repetition involves, in this case, acting out again and again the same pattern.”  —Elizabeth Jelin (State Repression and the Labors of Memory)
